What a Hand-Built Pipeline Costs  

Many data platforms run on the team’s own code: extracts, load scripts and history logic. Every new table, renamed column or source upgrade means changing it, and often just one or two people know how it fits together.

Amfelt replaces much of that code with configuration. It reads the structure of each source table and builds the staging, history and reporting layers from it.

Why History Matters  

Source systems keep the current state. When a customer moves or a price changes, the old value is overwritten, and a report on last quarter can give a different answer the next time it runs. A history layer keeps the earlier versions, so reports on past periods hold still.

Amfelt can build that layer for a table with a primary key, or for one whose records it can show are unique.

Where Your Data Goes  

The agent, the part of Amfelt that handles your records, runs on servers you choose, and with the default connectors your records pass through it there, from your sources to your data platform. Amfelt’s control plane is the cloud service where you configure and monitor Amfelt, built to run on Scaleway in Amsterdam. It receives your configuration, the structure of your tables with each database server’s address, and the results of each run, and Cloudflare, in front of it, decrypts that traffic on the way. The control plane also holds the connection passwords you give it, and it decides what the agent runs: which systems it connects to, what it reads and the SQL it runs, with no approval step on your servers.

The advisor, off until your organization turns it on, proposes how each table keeps its history: it sends a profile of each table it is asked about, including record counts and the earliest and latest value of each date and time column, and the control plane passes that profile, the table’s structure and its database server’s address to an LLM provider, Anthropic by default. With your organization’s advisor off, the agent still sends the profile to the control plane, which goes no further. Switching the advisor off on the agent stops it during runs, but an advise run someone starts from the control plane still sends a profile.
